Our first day was quite easy, we were oriented on how things work in the company, the channels of reporting and adviced on how to conduct ourselves in the work place. Aba and I were very excited to be interning with Inside-Out and we were determined to do and give out our best. While many of the staff were warm and receptive, the much older ones seemed grumpy and sort of uninterested in working. Or so it seemed. I wondered what could keep one unhappy working in such a highly reputable firm as this. What could possibly steal ones joy as an Inside-Out employee? I though to myself as we walked from stall to stall and office after office.
Our first week was a breeze, our experiences werent really the same, for me, many people wanted to get to know me after realizing who my grandpa was but it wasn’t the same for Aba. She had to run a lot of errands. Aba seemed more like a personal assistant to all the staff in our Design Department while I did more of the office work.
Why she allowed herself to be used and disrespected in that manner was beyond me. A lady had tried that on me just once and I stood up for myself like i had always been taught by my aunts to do. I let her know I am here to work and gain experience and not run personal errands. That was the last i saw of her. Aba seemed very agreeable too, she would say yes to anything she was asked to do as long as the person worked in our firm, it was almost as though she would make herself look small on purpose, but why she acted in that manner, I could not fathom. However she was the kindest person I knew.
